Test Results

We have just finished a very long week of doctors' visits and tests. The fluroscopy, ordered by the gastroenterologist, showed normal GI tract movement and no obstruction. The cardiologist performed an EKG and ultrasound. He said Noah's heart repair looked good and he should have no problem doing sports and would not need to limit his activity in any way. The hematologist has diagnosed Noah with Thalassemia Trait (a genetic trait with no repercussions for him.) No other red blood cell diseases are present.

The general consensus, however, among all these doctors is that Noah has suffered from malnourishment and neglect. They all believe that his developmental delays are related to a lack of calories. We don't understand why he was not given enough food or for how long. It is extremely frustrating to imagine him going hungry. We are assuming right now that his lack of nutrition was due to ignorance on the part of his caretakers instead of malaciousness.

We are very grateful that no surgeries are in our future and that physiologically Noah is doing well. We continue to be concerned about his developmental delays and low weight. Early Childhood Intervention (a county-run program for children with delays birth-3) will assess him more thoroughly and help us develop a specific plan for getting him on track. We also will see a neurologist and dietician.

We are open to suggestions and ideas for working with Noah. Please feel free to post a comment or e-mail us directly if you have any ideas for weight gain, nutritional supplements for brain health, or exercises or activities to help him gain strength. Most of all, we would ask that you continue to pray for little Noah. Thank you!
