Gotcha Day!

Well, today is the day! We can't believe that in just a few short hours Sheng Heng will be arriving at our hotel with the Orphange Director and a caregiver. We will have time to play with him and ask questions before they leave and then we're own our own! Well, not entirely. Our adoption agency representative will be with us for as long as we need him today, even into the night.

We have discovered some new information about Sheng Heng (relayed to us by our rep.) Sheng Heng does not speak Mandarin or Cantonese but a dialect specific to his ethnic group. Our rep. just happens to speak this local dialect! I know he will be very helpful in teaching us some basic words and helping translate our comunication to Sheng Heng. Also, our son still takes a bottle. So we will be making a trip to Wal-Mart this afternoon to buy bottles (among other things.) Our rep. has provided us with the formula he is used to as well as some teething biscuits and rice cereal.

We slept very little last night and had an early walk this morning along South Lake (right outside our hotel.)

Many people were doing tai chi along the way, some in groups, some by themselves. We drew a few stares - Mark in his Denver Bronco's jersey and me in my "I climbed the Great Wall" shirt. I'm sure we'll draw even more curiosity when we walk with Sheng Heng!

Seeking a change from local cuisine, we had dinner at Pizza Hut last night. It was the nicest Pizza Hut we'd ever seen! A lady greeted us at the door and then ushered us up stairs to a beautiful dining area. We were with the other family in our group. We ordered two large pizzas, "American style," and two "jars" of Pepsi. The menu offered everything from Chinese meatballs to corn pizza to decadent desserts.

We're off to complete adoption paper work!
