Arctic Blast

We still haven't thawed out from the "arctic blast". The poor ducks at our neighborhood pond have been stuck walking on an ice rink instead of having their usual swimming hole.

I watched several ducks glide over the pond expecting to make a typical landing in the water. Boy, were they surprised when their bottoms made contact with the slick, icy surface. They sat on the ice for some time. Were they hoping it would turn from solid to liquid? Who knows? Finally, they wearily stood and waddled to the center of the pond. ( That part was still swimable due to the moving water of the fountain). I felt so sorry for those poor ducks!
